Filter broken while I'm not home

Hey guys so I'm away from home on a trip and i have a marine land hob filter thats kind of old and the power went out a lot recently and when the power goes out the filter cant pull water from the fish tank by itself so i have to add water to the top of the filter and then it kind of jump starts it and it can pull water, but since I'm not home i cant top it off so its just trying to pull water constantly but it cant do it. Could the filter over heat and catch fire because of this?

I doubt it would overheat to the extent of causing a fire, but it is likely to permanently damage itself.

Have you any way of remotely turning it off?

You probably want to replace it before your next trip with something more reliable.

In water it stays cool- just wont run and likely impeller needing cleaning or has foreign object such as snail shell preventing normal operation
