Hi All,

In an attempt to save money, I have been buying quilt batting off of Amazon and cutting it to size rather than buying the more expensive aquarium specific filters. Here is what I buy:

Mountain Mist Quilt-Light Polyester Batting, Crib/Craft 45-inch-by-60-inch
Now it says it's just plain Polyester batting. The bag says hypoallergenic but that usually means less "stuff" than more but there is no federal regulation as to what hypoallergenic has to be.

So my questions:

1. Anyone else using this or similar?
2. Anything I should be worried about?

I have been battling a crazy bacteria for over a year in my tank. Thread blow:

While I do not think it is linked, I have run out of options and am questioning everything.

Thanks all!

I’d check to see if there’s any stabilizer or other chemicals on the batting. I’m a quilter and some batting is treated to make it easier to work with. I don’t know if it’s causing your problem, but it might be worth checking out. Good luck!

I've always used poly fill from Walmart in aquariums both fresh and more recently with my saltwater and it's worked great. Dirt cheap for a massive bag, no chemicals or flame retardants added. Switch it out every few days and water stays crystal.

I reached out but no reply back. Could be the holidays. I'll report back!

I thought about it, but the batting is nice as it comes in sheets and just cut to size rather than a huge fluff ball. Not a big deal just convenience

I get mine from eBay
