Should i rinse the filter in my quarantine tank now that it has cycled,or will this kill all the bacteria in tank? It is a empty tank with pvc.

you can "rinse" it in old tank water, but why do you need to?

Really your QT shouldn't have a chance to cycle properly... it should be a temporary set up which gets broken down between batches of fish.

Reason for this is threefold... traces of medications can hang around, so if you treat fish with copper, the copper will still be in there. Also any diseases which are treated could still be in there in traces... particularly bacterial infections as the bacteria can be protected within the biofilm that will eventually be produced. Lastly the biofilm can even break down medications rendering them useless.

Empty, clean and sterilise between uses and you get rid of all these issues. You can seed a sponge in your sump or DT for 'on the fly' purchases or when you need to set up in a hurry. Bin the sponge after each QT run though.

Invest in a bottle of bacteria (Dr Tim's or ATM colony etc) and dose that to deal with ammonia and keep an ammonia badge on standby for each use too.

I clean mine with bleach. Dry it out completely for a few days. Then toss it back into the sump of my DT to get it ready for the next QT use. I keep one in there at all time.
