I have used filter socks and a filter roller, as I see it the speed of my filter roller still keeps the trapped particulate in the water column for extended periods as the speed of the rollermat is very slow also if I speed up the rollermat whatever chemicals are in the roller make my skimmer go nuts.I am considering making a tray in my sump above water level to hold a good sized piece of filter mat in place of the roller mat.
The trapped particulate will be trapped above the waterline but obviously still decomposing ,is this a benefit when it comes to nutrients getting into my system or does is make little difference, obviously the mat will be changed every few days or as necessary.
TIA
