I am trying to figure out what is the best media setup for myself.

40b FOWLR...I have very little rock as i don't like the look of a bunch of rock.

I have an eshopps 100 hob skimmer. I also have 3 aquaclear 70's.

I am running the media that came with the filter...the sponge carbon and biomax...on each of the filters i have added a layer of blue bonded filter media to catch the larger debris. I also have added ChemiPure, Seachem Purigen, Seachem Matrix Carbon, Seachem PhosGuard.

What are your thoughts on the biomax? keep or don't? Add a different media? Remove any?

This is what I did. I made a diverter with acrylic and eggcrate to push the water down and up through all the media. I used a filter pad or poly filter(these are great) in the first section vertically before the diverter. I then used seachem matrix bio media in a bag on top of the eggcrate in the diverter, on top of that I used a bag of chemipure blue. The seachem matrix(not carbon) with give you the extra real estate for biological filteration. A small bag chemipure blue is more effective compared to the space it takes up. So fill up the chamber with the matrix to just like enough room at top for a bag of your chemical filtration. Poly filters are also a great touch, removes organics and any other impurity.
