Filter roller for grow out tanks?

I'm building a large breeding setup that will have one sump supplying multiple tanks that could house thousands juvenile clownfish. Really not a fan of socks. Is a filter roller overkill or would you add one?

I'm leaning towards a Redsea Reefmat if it's worth it.
