I have an SK5000 and for the last 6 months its been using about 1 roll a month, in the last couple weeks i am going through 1 roll a week. the rolls don't look nearly as dirty, slightly yellow vs white .

Anyone have any ideas on what could have changed that is doing this ?

is the float getting stuck on when it triggers the take up? i have a theiling rollermat mini that that will use a roll in a day sometimes. i take the float mechanism and clean it really good so the float drops back down freely.

I did check that, it does float free, when i stop it manually from rising the roller holder will fill with water in only a few minutes. So there is something that is clogging up the media i think. I just don't know what would be doing that now that wasn't before.

how much is in the water?
any changes in return pump?
20 microns is quite small, are you feeding any fine particle food. any thing spawning in tank. lighting changes causing algae growth that's being captured?

  • flow rate: up to 5,000 l/h (1320 US gph)
  • Particle size removal: down to 20 microns
  • Maximum submerged water depth: 20cm (8”)

Thank you for the reply, I think i have figured it out. I had a large algae outbreak a month ago (Newer tank) and i lowered nutrients to help with that and a lot of it died off. It seems that when the hair algae disintegrated it became almost slime like. That slime makes the filter mat not pass water. Good news is its removing it and the rate of usage is slowing as it does it.
