Extremely new to saltwater tanks. I've only done freshwater. I've got a 10 gallon and a 20 long that will be broken down once I move the fish into their larger permanent home. I'd like to turn one of them into a Fowlr tank. My question is would a spare tidal 55 be too big for either tank I decide to convert? Also, would a wavemaker be needed with a filter of this size? Thanks very much!

No such thing as too big. I run a tidal 110 on a 20 gallon.
If it fits let it rip.
I always add a powerhead to a tank to keep stuff suspended long enough for the filter to grab it.
