Long story short

tank upgrade

whole new system

working with a new lfs as my go to lfs no longer am going

they use these filter socks in sump

best way to clean and re use-possible?
Just paranoid, dont wanna harm tank

I bleach them in washing machine and run them through a rinse cycle 3 times. Haven't had any issues. I do wash ONLY the filter socks, nothing else at the same time.

Yah-i thought that was the process

im assuming wife wont want them in the washing machine

Be sure to use PLAIN bleach only!!! Do not use a scented or splash proof bleach - these will kill your corals!

Let my filter socks soak in 1/4 cup bleach and 2 gallons of water. When I collect enough dirty socks, place all in washing machine with 1/2 cup bleach. Give them extra rinse before using.

Tip to get longer usage out of filter socks - place a small piece of filter floss in each sock when replacing the socks. After 4 days, remove floss and get additional 4 days out of socks.

yep what poof said, i do a rinse/clean of my washing machine first on hot water and with white vinegar inside because im a bit paranoid myself, leave socks to dry for 2-3 days after bleach as well

@muggle0981 I collect a bunch of them and then take them to the local car wash that has self serve bays. I hang them on the “floormat hooks” and blast with plain water. When I get home I do a quick rinse in water with bleach, and then for final rinse I put Seachem Prime in to take out any remaining chlorine.

By the way. I switched to a Klir roller fleece. Maybe consider that option too.

I try to get the gunk out of them as best I can in the sink, then bleach in the washing machine like the other folks are saying. It works really well. I let them dry outside in the sun - any remaining bleach denatures in the UV light from the sun.
