Filter Sock Concern

I purchased some socks to use however when I opened the package the ring felt like metal. I found out they have a carbon steel ring. Read reviews where people were using them on reef tanks. Having second thoughts regarding using them because of rust. Thoughts?

I wouldn't use them. I can't say for sure they aren't safe but it isn't something I would personally risk.

Carbon steel and salt do not mix. Even stainless steel will rust over time.

Opened one up to see the ring. Guess I will keep the bags as they are 5 micron and would be good to polish. Will send the 100 micron back.

What size ring? The reason I asking is I make my own socks and use the plastic throw ring for the ring. You could cut out the rings and insert the throw ring as a substitute.
link to rings link I use them in my 4.25 socks, I just cut .75 or an inch out

They are 7 inch rings.

If stainless it might have some copper in it.
