Hey all,

For anyone using pressured freshwater to clean filter socks, will fw elements cause enough of a concern vs RODI rinse followed by days of drying.

Anyone just rinse and throw back in? Thoughts?

I toss mine in the washer with bleach and an extra rinse. Then I hang them to dry overnight. The amount of freshwater used to clean them never concerned me. Plus I pay around $3 each so if they get especially nasty I just toss them

I just put mine in washer on hot with Clorox and sometimes I use vinegar . Been doing this for 3 years with no issue on a sps/lps tank
Hot water will neutralize bleach but I do dip them in a dechlorator in sink then let them dry.

What brand do you all buy and from where?

I have a filter cup and lookikg for good brand and site to buy approx 160 mm diameter filter pads that I can use and throw...

You can go with the Poly-Bio pads and cut to fit. They filter out all kinds of gunk. Change colors depending on what is there, when I used in my JBJ 28g mine were brown from organics. My skimmer didn't have to work so hard.

I use 4x10 socks from Clear Choice Aquatics.

yes

I pre-soak in hydrogen peroxide (you can hear the socks fizzing), then dump in the washer on medium heat/ extra rinse but nothing added. The peroxide seems to do the hard work & the socks come out the washer looking new. HTH
