Who makes a good quality filter sock that will last? The deep blue ones are not holding up to well.

I used to get them off ebay and they lasted but I grew to despise them. They have to be replaced every 2-3 days or they build up nitrates and I found them unnecessary.

Of the 3 types I have tried purolator, one from my lfs and brs felt. I like the brs ones the best seem to capture crud and hold up well. The seem to last ~8 mo in my rotation till they start to show sings of ware. A rotation gets them used once every two weeks for about 4-5 days. After a year there about done

What exactly is happening to the filter sock? you might want to try to contact Deep Blue for replacements .

where the sock meets the plastic ring has already worn out in one spot, its not that old either.

Ditch the socks, have your over flow dump on live rock rubble. That's what I did and meleevs reef recommends

I figured I'd throw a maxi jet in there suck it out during a water change. If you don't change a sock frequently it's just making your phosphates, nitrates go up and catch a bunch of your pods, I hated washing them constantly, trying to free the pods trapped, it's a trade off I guess
