Hello, I have a new JBJ 45 gallon rimless setup and was told by some not to use the socks as it can catch small creatures. What do you recommend? Should I use them or not?

I use them, it filters out smaller particulates. I guess it's up to you in the long run but I feel they help a great deal. They will trap copepods and things like them I guess but they are typically on rocks and sand and not getting pulled into your filtration

I purchased the JBJ rimless 45 gallon aquarium. I don’t think it comes with a sump. Just the two pumps. Do you know?

Ive been using socks the last 5 years with no regrets. yes it catches pods but I inspect socks before wash and pick pods off and restore to tank first.

I believe it is an, AIO all in one (no sump).

Based on online information, the JBJ 45 rimless is an all-in-one (AIO) that comes with filter socks/filter sock holders. With the filter socks the water will probably be a bit more clear because of the small suspended particulates in the water being filtered out, however this will also filter out the small microorganism. There is not a right or a wrong and I think that you will find a range of perspectives and reasons. Personally I would use the socks when the water needs to be clarified, but normally run the tank without the socks. Good luck!
