Can you sustain a pod population while using a filter sock? I'm wondering how the pods in the refugium would get any food.

I have 2 4"filter socks before my fuge, and still have a great pod population. Not sure how though

Yes, they do get some food.

you can run without socks for a few days then put them back in and when clogged remove them again for a few days.

Filter socks don't trap every thing. Esp for small mouths. There's also nothing wrong with going sockless for week or to two. Balance.

I'm too stuck in my ways to go sockless lol. I hate detritus in the sump.

Lol. Tough trade off. That's what they eat. But if you have a fuge or just chato, I'd bet your fine.

Me , be always had mandarins. My current sump is a wild swamp. It's efficient nutrient export , but I have to Let in a lot of food for the bugs.

Maybe I can feed the sump once a week.

Or just phyto . I like the reef nutrition stuff.

They get trapped in the sock as well. Just take a bit of crap out of the sock and dump in the fuge.
