If I plan on using 24/7 filter socks, is that going to prevent me from keeping a decent pod population? I figure any coming into the sump are getting pulled out so maybe I should not bother adding any to my tank if they will just be promptly removed via socks. Does this make sense and is it what you have seen?

No. Some will of course get stuck in the socks but many more will not. I always run filter socks and have all kinds of pods both in the sump and in the display.

Maybe just take the socks out for a couple days when you seed the tank with new pods. Give them some time to settle in and take refuge before getting caught in the socks.

The thing is I might add a roller like the clarisea, those are not easily removed right? Since I imagine it will be a pain to be adding and removing I will probably leave it.

I just dont see how if your socks or roller are really getting all the water, how they would not significantly reduce pods.

Never had an issue with pods in my socks. I have plenty in my fuge and DT. Surprisingly they get sucked up from the fuge and shot into the tank via the return pump, but they tend to stick to surfaces(rock, sand, glass, etc) and vary rarely do they get sucked down the overflow into a sock.

I do remove my socks for a couple days if I buy and add them, just to give them time to settle if any do make it down the overflow.

Because not all pods swim freely around the water column and get carried away into the overflow. They hang on to surfaces all over the substrate, rock, and tank itself.
