Filter socks overflowing in sump.

I recently noticed that in my sump, the water level where my filter socks are has begun to overflow with water. I’m not sure if this is normal. I clean out the socks and it still happens. Also, the 2 back socks have a cascade effect into the 2 front ones. I noticed that there is a gap in the water line from the ring of the sock. Is that also normal? In the picture below I marked the water line with a black dash. Thanks for any help.

Looks to me like you have too much stuff crammed into the socks. If the water can't go down, it overflows.

Its clogged. You should be washing these every 3-4 days. Place in washing machine inside out on wamd, cold rinse no bleach or soap and let air dry.
Solution:
As I did, switch to mesh style socks. I wash them once a week by hand which takes 5 minutes and no drying needed- just pop right back in the cylinders

I machine wash mine with bleach (no soap) and let them air dry. Change socks twice a week rotating four pairs. The bleach is well gone when it is time to use the socks.

If it does it with no socks at all then either something is blocking the flow up between the baffles, or you have too much flow for that sump design.

How would I correct that? It is the stock sump and plumbing that came with the tank.

Again, socks are quite dirty. You should be able to see light right through the fabric when clean.
Obtain a second set and change out the dirty for clean, soak dirty in bleach then machine wash in warm water

Probably a silly question, but what do you mean by gate?
