I say get yourself a compact rollermat and then never have to worry about it again! Haha. I always hated washing filter socks so usually let em get bad then trow away. I think the rollermat actually saves me $$$ but for sure a lot of headache.

Wether you pre rinse or not, turn them inside out and in they go.

If you had muddy kids clothes, most would just chuck them in without thinking. This would be no different or any worse by a long shot.

That is what I will tell my wife if it goes south. Lol

Been wanting one for awhile. Which one do you use?

I got the Theiling COMPACT one. Actually, i liked it so much i got a second one so run each one per overflow in my tank. I was a little skeptical at first but they work great and u dont need to do anything with em for 3 or 4 months per my tank. Maybe even longer?

Okay, I pre rinse mine, but it would be fine without which I've done before and they still come out the same.

Second the wash tub, I run hot water and hand wash then back in the sump. I will be going sock less down the road, the new special grade sand is still trowing particulate.

I will add this thread to my growing pile of socks

No pre-rinse but I also wasn't using the same washing machine that I washed clothes in. I got one of these for dedicated filter sock washing.
It worked well but I've since stopped using mechanical filtration altogether.

:Dsmarty pants

I was washing filter socks for years in the washer machine. Got tired of constantly cleaning dirty socks finally bought a rollermat best thing I did. No more switching and storing dirty socks.

Straight in the trash for me. I picked up some OctoAquatics acrylic filter cups and use polyfil that gets tossed twice a week.

Nice! I have had those in my cart for awhile. Just need to pull the trigger on them.

I have been using the same bag of polyfil for two months now and will probably last another two. A big bag of it was $4 and I have 4 filter cups in my sump. So much easier to just dump them every 3-4 days. Takes less than a minute, ha.

Do you have a link for the polyfil?

Agree with washer. My wife has given up. I take a bucket of about 10 of them straight to the washer. Last week she found a couple snails in the washer...so I am on the look out for those now. I wouldn’t say she was exactly thrilled by the discovery...

Yes I turn mine and put in washer, normal cycle with a little vinegar, double rinse, fast spin. Practically dry when they come out
