Good Day fellow Reefers,

Is there any advantages/disadvantages of using 7" filters socks over the 4" filter socks?

Thanks!!!

Depending on the amount of flow you have going to the socks, a typical 7 inch filter socks on the smaller system will clog less due to larger surface area. However on a larger system with a large amount of flow (tank water turn over) they will clog more often as you're pushing more material through the socks and it's grabbing it quicker.

On my own system they only last me about three days before they have to be replaced before they starter overflow on the fourth or fifth day but I feed heavy so they tend to clog faster.

Also mesh versus felt will make somewhat of a difference as to how often they will need to be replaced/changed out.

Thanks. The sump I will be using is the Trigger Systems Tideline36 which has 2x 7" filter socks. My tank will be a 150 gallon FOWLR to start then down the road I plan to add a few corals.
