Filter socks

so I just started running my red sea reefer 170 and figured I would grab a extra filter sock while I was out got it home and it did not fit tried another brand and that one doesn't fit either what the heck is going on here where do I get these filter socks from??? I'm 20 bucks deep here with 2 useless filter socks

The Red Sea tanks hold a 4" filter sock that has a 4" ring (Red Sea and Vertex 4" filter socks). Most other filter socks have a 4.5" ring. You can either use a dremel tool and widen the sock holder to make it fit the larger "standard" sock, or buy the branded filter socks. Vivid Aquariums has the cheapest Red Sea socks that Ive found, but at $8 a filter sock (either mesh or felt) if you want to run cheaper socks overall, the dremel modification is likely your best bet.

I use 200 micron filter. They do not catch the smallest particles, but then they do not clog very fast either. I change mine twice per week.
