Filter socks

Heres a cheap 4 pack filter sock. I just bought it recently and cost only $17.99

I go to Joann's Fabrics and buy a couple yards of natural felt. I cut it to the size I want and have my daughter sew them. I get over 2 dozen from a yard. A yard of felt is only about $10.

I pull string through mine and tie them on. You could also use air hose to make it rigid if u need to set them in a holder.

At the price you can use once and throw away but I rinse and wash mine to use again.

I have 5 pairs that I rotate out. I clean them with a pressure washer.. works like a charm. I try to change them out every 5-7 days to help keep the nitrates down.

Mesh socks are way less trouble, or even none at all!

One mesh sock and hose it out every 2 days. Been doing it with the same one for months now.

The only time I run a sock is when I do maintenance. I throw one on shake my bag of marine pure and blast the bottom of my sump and stir up the detritus in the dt. Next day I pull the sock turn it inside out toss it in a bucket with hydrogen peroxide. After they soak rinse them off and there ready for next maintenance day.

I run 3 filter socks in my 350g total volume. Change 2x a week. Machine wash with bleach & extra rinse, hot water. Air dry. I bought bunch of backup socks but been using same 6 socks for last 6 months with no degradation.

Use a sock. Will probably always use socks. BRS just did a episode on them. For simply polishing the water they are worth it to me.
