Hi Guys
My nitrates have been running around 5-10ppm for a while and around 3-4 weeks ago I added a roughly 8 x 12 inch 2 inch thick piece of filter wool to my sump to try and collect any detritus that missed the main filter socks.
I change the wool around every 7 days with a water change.
I have noticed now that my nitrates have gone to around 16 and I'm just wondering if the lump of filter wool is the cause of this increase in level or is this just a coincidence?
I have read Randy's article Nitrate in the reef aquarium which I think may touch on this but I'm note exactly sure.
I'm running NoPox and Rhowaphos and was in the process of increasing the NoPox dose but after a few days I've dropped it back as a couple of Elegance corals didn't look happy and a white film was forming on the glass.
