Hey Everyone!!

I wanted to know if anyone has used egg crates and cable ties to make a stand for filter floss , instead of a filter sock??

Do you have any ideas or designs?

I want to place it in my little sump tank.

Thanks!!

I haven't made anything specific for filter floss but have made other stuff for my sump out of egg crate and zip ties (skimmer stand, heater holders, etc.), works great. Depending on how much return flow you have, seems like you could get away with a simple platform that you could put a layer of floss on top of, and most of the water would just flow through the center of it. You'd just want to make sure that as it clogged, the water has someplace to run off the side but still stay inside the sump. I'd probably just make a box shape (depending on how big it needs to be), but leave off the bottom - if you have egg crate sitting flat on the bottom of your sump it will collect all kinds of detritus.
