Well, this is an interesting conversation. I don't think I'd be brave enough to attempt that.

Been thinking about this a little bit. Stocking would be a good mix between soft corals and macro algae. Idk how much fish I could put in there without totally overloading the nutrients, probably just stock it really slow and watch nutrient levels. My inspiration is hey's tank from nano-reef, except hopefully minus the aquaclear filter. I was also hoping to keep water changes minimal. Keeping less demanding corals and if need be put kalk in ATO. Thoughts?
I will still do water changes, hoping once a month. I would still do weekly maintenance to help with detritus build up. Im hoping with a good amount of macro algae nutrients wouldn't be a huge issue. I'm hoping I could put about 5 fish in there. Im not opposed to putting an above tank waterfall ATS if that's all the filtration I can get away with. If I can only put 3 small fish in there so be it. I'm looking for a large K.I.S.S tank. Am what I thinking unrealistic? There are a number of small nano reefs running without mechanical/chemical filtration. However, water changes are needed (how much depends on bio-load, whether the system is regularly cleaned of detritus, etc.). My 12g has run this way with Kalkwasser in the ATO and is a 'mixed reef' (SPS, LPS, Zoas, Shrooms).
