Hey all!
So I have sort of a two-part question that I'd like your advice on. I've got a 60 gallon that's been running a few months now. I've got two cannister filters (Fluval 407 and Fluval 207) and 2 aqueon 500gph circulation pumps. This is a FOWLR tank.
My questions are:
1) Is this enough flow for my tank? I've got the outputs for the cannisters pointed slightly up as to agitate the surface of the water a little more and the wave pumps are about 1/3 of the way down the tank, towards the front, and the streams intersect about midway through. I've read and seen videos saying tanks need this sort of flow because turbulence is better than just straight streams of current. Should i have more powerful pumps? More smaller ones?
2) What sort of filter media do i need in my cannisters. I'm not really up for having a sump debate. I may eventually switch to one with a HOB overflow box but right now the cannisters is what I have. Currently i have the stock sponges that come with those fluval cannisters. But i've added some extra floss pads and it has some carbon bags, bio balls, and those ceramic rings. I'm always watching videos and reading and i've seen some people don't use bio balls or ceramic rings, some people swear by them, some people use carbon, some people say it's pointless. What would you guys suggest i run in the cannisters?
I'll be adding a HOB protein skimmer either this week or next week as well.
Let me know what you guys think and what advice you have.
Thanks in advance!
