So just picked up a 9 gallon pensinsula unknown of the maker of the tank but the back three chambers are quite small and any in tank media basket that are on the market doesn’t quite fit so I’m a little stumped as I trying to avoid running a sump kind defeats a aio what would be the best approach on setting up the filtration for this tank thanks again !

Filter floss and bagged carbon in the overflow chamber, looks like the return pump goes on the opposite end, so the middle could be used to feed a skimmer, should you feel the need.

I'd start with the carbon and floss, and leave it that way until you had the tank up and running a few months.

I wouldn’t worry too much about not having a basket that fits, it’s easy enough to run just as well without one, though you could easily make one yourself, from egg crate or plastic.

I filter floss holder may fit, but again workable without one, your tank will export nutrients with water changes, anything else you can add will be a bonus, I have a 14g, my filter media is a bag of siporax, carbon and Purigen, no skimmer, oh and some filter floss. My main export method is water changes.

Ok cool thank you guys I understand now I’m just overthinking it or making it more difficult just to remember the KISS method but here’s a couple photos to show the measurement of the rear chambers the last pic just shows exactly how the chambers look on this tank

will do a update on the build when I get the rock and sand in !! And all the upgrades to come in the future

My biggest worry if I planned to have coral would be an auto top off plan. Filtration is easy. Ato means a supply of fresh water somewhere. On a tank that small even going away for a couple of days would mean a significant evap problem. Thus somehow using the bottom of the table now comes into play anyway for a sump and ato container.

Right I plan on getting a micro ato I’ve heard is pretty decent before I even add water so that’s what I’m doing now is gathering all the equipment that’s most essential like the ato But I’m more than open to any suggestions thanks for the advice again !

I am curious to get some suggestions on what equipment would be best to go with as far as Powerheads or have good flow in the tank I do in the very FAR future want to or plan to keep sps is the goal

I think If you could fit a tray of miracle mud and filter floss back there you’d be happy with it.

Ok Deff I’m sure I could construct some type of diy contraption to hold the miracle mud in to fit in possible the second chamber

Thats the basics to my big HOB. Miracle mud and a ton of floss. It’s been smooth sailing for 4 months so far

ok cool good to hear ! Also have been reading with the miracle mud it’s good for corals as it put back trace elements in the water just have heard you need the correct flow and surface area for your tank size

Even if you don’t go with sps, I would agree with getting a powerhead, I find mine works so hard in moving food into the overflow so it is not rotting on the sand bed, even when the return is still pumping, turn the powerhead off and the difference is huge, some say a Random flow generator on the return is enough, could be but I would think you would be working much much harder for the same results.

the micro is a good option, I would stick with that, you need a load of little bits and bobs but big equipment for an aio is very simple, light, ato, heate, return and powerhead, going for sps I would get the best you can now, powerhead you have a few options, mp10 if you want to pay that much is a very good option, return you will be limited, some find the Sicce very quiet, I didn’t so went with the jecod dc 1200, light you have a few options again, my tank is LPS, no sps plans, I went with a Kessil a80, whilst it is rated for sps, may not be the best option, you could go Kessil a160, or the ai prime, or a few non top brand cheaper options out there but I haven’t looked into those, heater, again a few options but IMO you can’t go wrong with Eheim heaters.

ok cool thanks for the equipment list I appreciate it !! I plan on getting the mp-10 in the future right now just to get running not sure what I’ll go with maybe a koralia to start with and I’m debating or having issues when it comes to lighting the tank properly just due to the shape of the tank I planne don just runnning with the AI prime HD but would that be cover the length of my tank with it being a peninsula is what I wonder about ? My tank actually came with this basic led light I’ll use for the cycling process and getting my tank stable.. I’ve heard multiple times Eheim is good Ill most more than likely go with them for the heating for sure and do some research on what I find

The prime will easily cover that tank, my tank is also a peninsula, slightly bigger than yours and the a80 covers it, the prime is a bigger light so no problem there.

Try and keep the light off when cycling, you only need to turn it on when you get corals, it will help the cycle so smoother.

Oh ok cool yea my plan is to not go cheap but to just take my time and get quality equipment in lighting so it will help in the logo run not shoving to pay to replace more parts. Right ofcourse I don’t want to have a huge algae outbreak right off lol I’ve been doing a lot research and YouTube has helped lol thanks to inappropriate reefer and several others

You have probably already come across them but Bulk reef supple have some great videos on setting up a tank, if you were to follow those word for word, you wouldn’t go far wrong, check out there 52 weeks of reefing and their 5 minute guide series, there talk you step by step o. Setting up.
