So I’m working on a new build, or at least I have been for most of the year. Not sure if you can call it a new build since I’ve been working on it that long but the tank I just got and it’s a 60g cube. The rest is stuff I been picking up here and there and thinking on design for. But I want a system designed to be for someone with LARS. I travel a lot and not always able to do everything that I want to take care of my current setup. Apex helps me keep an eye on things. Which helps a lot. But I don’t want to be dependent on chemical filtration.

I like more natural filtration. Like with a cryptic zone. So I have two two gallon tanks that I’ll tumble macro algae in. And a 7g Polyethylene tank that I’ll fill with rubble. My skimmer is a AXIUM 120. I won’t be running any filter socks, instead I like filter floss. Less of a hassle to throw that stuff away instead of washing socks.

So i still have a small amount of room left to fit the size of a 20g tank in. Should I add more macro algae in that tank? another cryptic zone with more rubble? or should I be thinking of something else? I’m a huge fan of algae scrubbers but I don’t want to have to pull that out every week to clean it. Yes the macro will need to be harvested every week. But that’s just the same as pulling the floss out and throwing it away.

This tank won’t have a heavy bio load from fish but I would like to feed the corals from time to time. I would like for the pods to feed the fish mostly. So what do I need to change/add to make this a better setup?

It is my opinion that macro in the DT has a tendency to compete with corals I would like. I think what you have planned is well sufficient ATM.

Well I won’t have any macro in the display, just two 20g tanks that will flow into the sump. The display will be the 60g.

Sorry if I misunderstood. It sounded as though you had 20g worth of room in the DT you were considering utilizing macro for that space.

It’s ok, I see the confusion. I’m trying to decide on how best to proceed. I don’t want the area to be cramped to make it difficult to clean when the time comes. It would be nice if pressurized containers were cheaper and easier to find so I could just flush it with more flow about once a year instead of having to empty it of rock and siphon out the detritus.
