Hello everyone. I currently run a 10 gallon nano 'reef'. It has an aquaclear 70 on the side which acts as a good wavemaker and filtration for the small tank. I also have about 10 pounds of live rock in there.

For a 29 gallon, I was thinking of turning the AC 70 into a hang on back chaeto refugium. I have a spare AC 20 that I could put filter floss, purigen and possibly other mechanical filtration into. I have about 20 more pounds of dry caribsea rock in my basement, coming out to a total of 10lb live + 20lb dry = 30lb rock in total for a 29 gallon aquarium. I do have 2 clownfish at the moment so they would need to go into the tank instantly as it's set up because I will be using the heater, water, rock and filter from the 10 gallon onto the 29.

Does this sound like a good plan? Let me know your thoughts and suggestions!

Have you thought of drilling the 29g and using the 10g as a sump? You could fill the drilled 29g and add the rocks/fish with the hob filter then setup the sump and plumb it in. Once it's plumbed and the glue is dried fill it all the way up and use the sump as a fuge

The Eshopps overflow takes up very little real estate in the tank.

The tank is going on a dresser and not a stand, so I have to run it sump-less.

I have a 29 gallon tank setup. I’m using a tunze skimmer and then running carbon, gfo, and biopellets in a Eheim canister filter. I removed all the mechanical filtration from the canister.

Best of luck.
