I'm looking to go for a different kind of filtration on my new tank my 150gal has a fuge and a curve 7 skimmer, but id like to maybe try to go more "natural" on this one. I was thinking of just dumping a ton of rock into my sump and a couple filter pads in front of my return pump.. can I run a tank successfully without a skimmer/fuge/socks?

I did on my previous 60 cube, however it did have a sump with socks but no skimmer. I used LR from TBS, which is direct from the ocean and so full of life. I ran it with DSB but not much bio load (2 clowns, kole tang, anemone, brittle star, cuc, lots of porcelain crabs, some coral) and tank was fine.
