I've never used a skimmer in the last 18 years. Well, I've tried filer socks a few times but never kept up with them and my last filter socks are still in my sump 4 years later. Anyway, I've been slowly cleaning up my system and have considered finally adding a skimmer or maybe a roller. If I do a skimmer I guess I would also add in like the davey jones collector. I'm going to have some serious surgery and won't be that mobile plus as you can see I've never been great with maintenace. Tank is a 120 anenome tank with small fish and I'm about to add 20ish clowns to I expect I'll likely be the horrible over-feeder person too. Suggestions? Thank you.

A filter roller and a refugium sound like the best option.
+ 1 and add a skimmer. That's going to be a large bioload to manage without using everything you can. Those clown harem tanks require way more daily feedings than if you just had 20 fish. One example of a successful instance I heard, they were feeding every half hour in smaller amounts. Anemone are forgiving but not if parameters go nuts.

Roller will be self sufficient while you are laid up.
Skimmer cup would have to be emptied every few days depending on load and washed out occasionally.

Is a filter roller the same thing as an algae scrubber? Thanks
