Hey guys,

I recently purchased a 90 gallon tank second hand. I got a great deal as the previous owner provided me with everything I will need including sump (eshopps rs 100), skimmer, reactor, etc. The sump is setup with a filtration sock, skimmer, and reactor. I’m considering going with a refugium instead of the reactor in the last chamber of the sump. As I’m new to the hobby, I’m looking for any recommendations or advice that experienced hobbyist can share regarding filtration setups for my sump. Thank you in advance.

Refugiums can be a great kind of nutrient export.

It is best to think of your tank as a system. If you running a fish only aquarium, skimming, water changes, and clean up crew should control algae.

If you are thinking of running a low nutrient system, than a refugium with chaeto can be great.
