Biological filtration is from the sand in the live rock in the tank correct? Sound like a Total dumb butt right now.

So the only thing that I would actually need to add to the sump are the filter socks my phosphate and carbon reactor and that should be good? With the exclusion of the fuge having macro algae.
No need for sand and live rock?

Only asking cuz I switched from a 90 gallon to 180 gallon with fresh salt water and fresh sand tanks been up for 4 days no cycle yet cuz I haven't added anything besides dead rock I haven't transferred anything from my 90 gallon yet cuz I don't want the corals of fish to die I did get that turbo start 900 going to be adding that today to help cycle the tank. Just want to make sure I have what I need to for filtration so I don't kill anything moving it over.

Completely Valid question. Bio filtration happens literally on any and every surface of your aquarium, however the majority of your filtration will come from surfaces that has the most desirable surface area that isn't disturbed. This is normally in your sand bed or your live rock. It could also be in your sump if you had any type of bio brick media ect....

Rule of Thumb: Total live rock = 1 pound per gallon.

So you have doubled the size of your tank, the amount of live rock should double.

But it is total pounds of live rock in the SYSTEM (display and sump combined). So 30 pounds of live rock in the sump means 150 pounds in your display.
