Hi Everyone,

I am 2 weeks post cycle and have CUC and 2x clown fish. My goal is to let the system run for a bit before adding coral.

Tank Details
Tank 10g
10pds dry rock
10pds live sand
Cycled with Turbo 9000, Non-Fish

My question is now that the new cycle is over what filter media should I use?
1) Just Floss
2) Floss and Carbon
3) Floss, Carbon, Purigen
4) Floss, Chemi-Pure Elite & Purigen

I voted other - normally people run whatever filtration during their cycle.

Just to make sure - did you add ammonia to complete the cycle? or just bacteria and clowns?

Part of the answer concerns what type of filter you're going to use? I would tend (for a 10 gallon tank) - use an aqua clear filter for that size tank - with the sponge provided and a bag of chemipure blue (as compared to 'cheap' carbon')

I'm assuming you mean in addition to the biological media. I use medium coarse sponge followed by carbon then floss or a polishing pad. Latter two cleaned/changed as needed. Carbon when water turns yellow. Sponge when changing out carbon since it's just there for trapping detritus and letting it breakdown.

Used to use Purigen but I'm letting nature handle nutrients yet I'd use that if I didn't have a skimmer and I would place it post floss to extend it's use. Know this much. Doesn't replace the need to use carbon. Not in my experience. Does apparently trap nutrients before having a chance to decompose. Not knowing how to prove that, I'd chosen to exclude it and have one less component that needs changing or in this case recharging.

I have a 10g IM Nuvo Pro. I started off with One and Only and either had (Dead batch, overdosed ammonia or stalled) as my ammonia was over 4+ and would not come down. I then used Turbo 9000 and my ammonia came down in 1x day but my nitrite would not come down for another 3-4x days so I did a water change and it came down the next day. I then added another 1/2 bottle of Turbo 9000 and added the clowns and CUC.

Right now I just have floss and yesterday added Rox carbon. I plan on doing 25% water changes weekly. Salt is TM Pro Reef (German)

Fast forward 2 weeks and here I am.

In a tank that small. Floss and chemipure blue is what i would do and actually have done in the past. Along with your water changes you'll be set.

I feel adding purigen right now in conjunction with chemipure or just carbon might be a little overkill. Although i believe chemipure blue has some in it... not a lot.... just enough to help you out with organics and some GFO.
Purigen is a great product and works pretty darn well. (dont want to starve the tank)
