Put together my new RO BH-1000 and boy is that thing huge! Since I am sumpless, I'm currently running a Tunze 9004 and an Aquaclear 70. I'm thinking I'm not going to like the way the tank looks with another huge HOB item. Is it possible to just run the BH-1000 without any additional filtration?

I'm running a 40B with a little over 50lbs of dry rock (been in there about a month) and 2lbs of live rock that I used to seed the tank with.

My other thought is running a canister for the instances I may need to use some carbon or purigen.

Thanks!

Are you replacing the Tunze with the Reef Octopus? Or using both?

I have a 120 gal. sumpless softie/lps tank with a RO BH-2000 on the back. heater and two Jebao powerheard. 150 lbs. of live rock is my filtration. I run carbon in a small canister on occasion when I frag my softies, but it's not really needed.

FWIW, my grandparents next door neighbor use to keep some goldfish in a sawed off wine barrel in the back yard. (Alice) My sister and I would go over there sometimes and feed the fish. We were young back then. (7-10) Anyways, as we grew up so did the fish. There was no filtration whatsoever on this tank except what was living on the walls. By not overstocking, not overfeeding and the occasional down pour this environment flourished. I might be comparing apples to oranges here, but it's pretty much the same thing when you really think about it... KISS, GL :)
