Hello all and sorry if there is a sticky" about my question as just want to get a little feedback from a few of you. I have had a 40 gallon reef tank for over 10 years now. Actually have 2 clowns that must be going on close to 4-5 years old. I hate to say it but ironically I am running two Marineland Emperor Filter Systems mounted on the back of the tank. They have worked well as all levels are always good and the tank has thrived for over 5 years now so never really thought about changing them until now.

I am looking to upgrade to something maybe a littler better that does not mount on the back? I would appreciate ay suggestions as I have room under the tank for external filtration/pumps. Thank you I advance!

Dave

Thank you but that looks a bit "cheap" and the reviews are not that good. Any other recommendations?

61 views and only one response? That's not a nice way to welcome a new guy! LOL!

You can do it with cannister filters just req more maint. Ehiem are good filters

Hi Dave I run a Rena XP and i LOVE it! It isnt too bad but you wont need one that large, you could get away with the medium one. Its super quite and really easy to clean and maintain. My tank is clean, clear and under control....except my dumb domino damsels...... i blame the BF on them and he responsible for cathing them in my 110 tall. Let me know if you would like the link to the website where i got mine :)

Yay great! I love mine, let me know if you need anything on set up. Make sure you prime it when you get it

I am assuming that it comes with directions on how to prime... like I said I am still running the old school pumps ;-)

Do you think there will be any problem in regards to the environment with me switching over as the ones I have now only have the filter and carbon inserts, not the media...?

Yups that should all come with it. And it shouldn't change anyrhinf drastic in your tank. Your parameters will probably get better. Just test the water once it's been running for a min

Not a problem, I've had my tank running for almost a year......and I'm constantly learning things. Good luck!
