I have a 26 gallon bowfront nano mixed reef, with a hang on back protein skimmer and a hang on back refugium (more like a hospital tank, I don't use it for macro algae). these units have served me well for a while on various tanks, but I am looking to upgrade.

Unfortunately, I lack the space to do a sump. So it looks like something that hangs on the back of the tank is still the only option. I'm thinking of going for the same concept, just combining the two units. What do you guys think of a hang-on-back refugium/skimmer combo like this one?

I'm leaning towards getting it but I need some second opinions.

Also if anyone could answer me a few things: would an over sized protein skimmer work as efficiently on a much smaller tank than what it's rated for? And would an extra 15-16 pounds hanging off of the back of my tank be anything to be concerned about?

After having dealt with hob's and overskimming to the point of necrosis events, I like to choose a skimmer that is suggested for the sizes, and then turn it off for 8 hours a day.(Leng Sy suggests 6, but I sure the heck don't want to see necrosis come again because of MY preference for clearer water; vs the corals preference for food)
Hob's are nice, but all I see is failure points that can lead to leaks.

Currently using a 9001 tunze in the recirculating position of the pump (default position) and really am liking it. Water gets a bit of a film on it by sunset, then it's cleared by morning.

The SRO-LX2000s was my last fav hob skimmer, but it's a beast and quite sensitive to water levels.

One thing to consider as well, is I don't think many tank manufacturers take into consideration the heavier hob setups. (could be detrimental to silicone seals etc over time)
