Ok guys not sure what my new wrasse has. His dorsal fin is missing a nice chunk out of it. I have seen him and my Midas blenny battle a little so did the blenny get the better of him or should I be concerned and put him in QT? A little background, he's only been in the tank for 2 weeks after 6 weeks in QT. He was treated with 2 rounds of prazi and feed metro/focus for 4 weeks prophylactically. He still has a great appetite but I have noticed he is not out in the open as much.

Well it does look like a battle wound. It also looks like it could be getting infected. You'll want to do one of three things: put him back in QT and dose furan 2 or kanaplex in the water- do this for a minimum of 10 days or as long as it takes to heal over; OR Feed him either of the meds I mentioned + focus for the same time frame (though it will probably take longer since it's much slower when done this way; OR just feed plenty of healthy foods, vitamins such as Vitachem or Selcon and keep the water he's in pristine clean. This way you're letting his own immune system try to beat it on it's own with limited help.

Up to you, though.... I hate infections so I would put him in QT and treat. These things can be so touchy and difficult to treat. Depending on the type of infection it can be very slow and easy to heal or very fast and your fish is dead before you blink. I really hate infections. I hope your's is an easy one.

Thank you Meredith! It may be difficult to catch him so putting him back in to QT would be my last option if at all possible. I will begin to feed kanaplex and focus with vitachem. Ill give this a try for the next week and if he doesn't show signs of improvement Ill move him over to QT.

You're welcome. Good luck!

Ok Meredith, I had to transfer him to my hospital tank since he did not show any signs of improvements and actually got a little worse. Currently I have him in Kananplex, should I add Furan 2 and possibly metro as mention by humblefish in his article since this looks to be a pretty nasty infection? https://www.reef2reef.com/threads/treatment-options-102.189658/

That's what I was afraid of. Yes, if you have furan2 and metroplex then I would add them now. Pump up the O2 in the tank while you do this.

Should I use all the recommended dosage for a 5g tank or are they altered in any way?

Yeah, follow the directions for dosing on each package.
