Hi all!,

New to this forum and just hoping to get some good advice. I have a Fox Face and I've been treating him for fin rot. I've used EM Erythromycin, amoxicillin, and melafix marine all on separate dosing regiments. I have not seen any improvements. I'm really wondering what everybody else thinks this could be based on the pictures. I really appreciate any advice. It's difficult to see but the fox face has a small hole on his nose which I think might be from this bacteria whatever it is???

Thanks guys!

That looks like bacterial fin rot to me. I’d snag NFG to treat that fish in QT for 10-14 days.

NFG is some killer stuff if you’re fish bacteria! :)

I agree with @4FordFamily. If NFG can't be sourced quickly, add Kanaplex and Furan-2.

This would need to be done in a QT.

Might be a good idea to do a 5min FW dip and check for flukes as well.

Thankyou guys for the replies!!!! You have been more helpful than anything! I have 2 questions:

1. What is NFG?

2. A QT tank is not financially feasible at the moment. Can I treat the display tank with it?

Here is the link for NFG

Antibiotics can't be used in Display. Most are not coral/invert safe. The other issue is with things like live Rock can absorb the medications and biofilm can degrade them. So the solution is a QT. You can get something as small as a 10gallon for treating a single fish. Or if you want something bigger, craigslist.

If its some sort of bacteria in my main display, how do I be sure that it wont happen again without medicating the main display? water changes are great but how can I be sure its not some bacteria living in the sand or rock itself?

Bacteria is always present. An established healthy fish shouldn’t be negatively impacted by it, so if they’re not showing issues now they probably will not.

The only way to kill all bacteria good and bad is to bleach everything and start from scratch.

Antibiotics just aid the fish in recovery. This is much better explained here:
