So, i bought 6 neon tetra's from PetSmart about two weeks or so ago. I put them in the empty tank along with two mollies. Five of the six died that evening, so i returned them the next day. I thought it was my water quality at first, until the next day when i bought tons of tests and kits that all came back fine. Then i thought it was the stress, but one neon survived and so did the two mollies! I ended up forgetting about it. Fast forward a couple weeks and i go back in the same PetSmart to get some more neons. They only have one left, so i figured I'd get that one and come back in a couple days to get more. I never really got a chance to get a good look at the fish until i got home and put him in the tank. He has fin rot! Its so frustrating because i look back and remember how the employee said he was all alone and the tone she said it in. I'm almost certain she knew he was sick. All my other fish from PetSmart have been fine and healthy. Has anyone else had problems with PetSmart tetras? Also, should i return the diseased fish? I have no where else to keep him other then my community tank so I'm thinking of just taking him back. Anyway the moral of the story is i won't be buying tetras from PetSmart again.

You are going to get mixed responses here. Petsmart/petco aren't renowned for healthy animals. However, there are apparently some that are maintained by a knowledgeable individual. I have bought from them in the past, once. I ended up losing my entire tank to ick. I still look at their stuff when I go get dog things. I've yet to see what I would call even remotely adequate care.

I need to stop looking though because every time I want to rescue a good fish. But my kids don't get to play with Petco kids. Thats just me though. If I were into freshwater I would feel exactly the same way. Find a good local freshwater fish store.

I think that there are some freshwater keepers here. If you post parameters and pictures they may be able to give you good advice.
