Been battling low and/or 0 NO3/PO4. Figured I need dirtier water at this point, so I decided to just eliminate the felt socks altogether.

Was finding the socks were counter to my attempt to raise nutrients, plus I'm pretty sure they were clogging up with the reef chili I was feeding the corals.

Only mechanical filtration I have now is the skimmer.

Any caution to this approach I need to be aware of?

Is it beneficial to only run the socks when I want to polish the water, maybe once a month?

Or maybe only if/when my NO3/PO4 starts going to high?

Try dosing NP-Bacto-Balance from Tropic Marine, there are several you tubes videos on Tropic Marine supplements. This would raise your nutrient level to the correct ratio.

I also just removed my filter socks. I have an aio tank, so I bought another IM custom caddy, now on both Caddys I run (from top to bottom) a filter pad, floss, and chemipure blue. I didn’t quite have the low nutrient levels, but got tired of rotating and washing the socks.
