Well I finally finished plumbing, after some leaks and minor adjustments, going to be mixing salt soon, if I can just get temp to regulate. Now for aquascaping, any suggestions?...FOWLR tank so do i put sand first then rock, rock then sand, some sand then rock?..I have been working on getting this tank setup since Nov..during my extra time..far and few in between. Has anyone purchased dry rock on Amazon?..if so any good as a base?...Feel free to chip in any and all comments questions..thanks

Interested to hear what folks say about dry rock. In the meantime do you know of any sites where you can individually choose pieces of dry or live rock?

Either way, I don't think it matters. I put my sand in first, then the rock. Some people do the opposite, stating it is needed that way for the stability of the rocks. Can't help with the dry rock from Amazon...I used all live rock in both of my tanks.

Thanks..I have a 110..can i do live sand and add some live rock..then gradually add more over time?..What would be a good starting amount?

I think so however depending on your source and their stock some varieties are more vigorous than others and in the end they will all take on a mostly uniform nature. I'm interested to hear about someone using all dead rock and live sand and ultimately were they happy with the look, etc of the rock once it matured and seeded.

I haven't had any experience with purchasing rock from Amazon, but you can't go wrong with dry rock from ReefCleaners.

You want rock in first. The reason is that you want the rock directly on the bottom of the tank. If you place it on the sand and now have fish or inverts that dig caves, there is a possibility of the rock going over.
