Finally got a pair ;)

Just like the title says I bought my first pair of clownfish ( based on the title thats what you thought I meant right! ). They are ocellaris. Out of a tang and 2 chromis these are my favorite fish by far. I bought them a bubble tip anemone and it already moved across one rock and onto another.

How long does it generally take for clownfish to change sex?
What are behaviors that would show this first step?
How long does it generally take for a clownfish to begin mating?
What do you need to raise fry?

Based on the size, I would say you have at least a 18-24 months before they get to breeding size. They will squabble, and the larger one wil become the female. Sometimes, clowns in a community tank take a little longer to begin spawning. When it comes to raising fry, it is a cool process. I would wait till after their first batch of eggs.

The fish will establish dominance and then the least dominant will stay male while the dominant changes to a female. This could happen over months of time. Some clowns will never mate.. they will bond but never drop eggs. The fry take a heck of alot of work to raise. rearing tanks/rotifer cultures and alot of dedication. Being in college it may be better to just want to enjoy them.

Sweet I love clown's I have two pairs one pair is a black ocy misbar, then a black ocy full bar, my favorites besides they think that they are sharks when I clean the tank and like to bite. Either way congrats on a awesome fish.
