Funny how you read stories of horror about specific animals but don't believe them until it happens to you. Or not funny....
So I've kept mythrax crabs in all my reefs. Never had any issue I was aware of. And I'm not the kind to jump to conclusions. But today after having my ruby red for a year, the unthinkable happened.
I was looking at my reef as I always do. Noticed my duncan frag was closed up. Unusual as it was not feeding time. As I sat there watching my ruby mythrax stepped out from behind it, reached directly in the center and came away with one of its tentacles. At first I figured it was trying to take something from the duncan and accidently got a tentacle. But to my amazment I watched him pull the tentacle apart and eat it. As he reached back into the duncan after finishing the first, I reached for him. Got hold but not in time to stop him from tearing a second out. He is now in my fuge.
I can't believe in 10 years of reefing and owning mythrax this is my first time seeing it. But I'm glad he is out now.
