Hey everyone I have been reading your forums for a year now waiting to setup my tank. I am 27 with a great wife a child on the way and I am a boilermaker by trade.
I wanted to get into the hobby as I set up a failure of a tank before being young and overzealous . This time I figured I would do it right. I read books and forums for a year.
This is a hobby to relax as I have ptsd from two combat tours and need something to keep my mind free.
2 weeks ago I filled my tank and started the cycle .

I am currently working with a 110 g built in overflow with durso, 1" drain to sump , sump has ins 80 skimmer , marineland led light, live sand and live rock rubble, it is returned via a 3/4 in flexible pvc from a rio hf 17 .
My lighting is a 48 in coralife pc . 2 hydor koralia 1050, 850 powerheads , and a y return nozzle .
1.5-2" sand bed live sand and 65 lbs live rock.

Nice to meet you all great to be addicted

Welcome to R2R and thank you for serving! 1smile1

As stated above, you'll find several other vets here, some of whom are going through similar experiences. It seems as though a lot of veterans get into the reefing hobby, but I never really understood why? When I was stationed at West Point (I was an NCO and worked for a living.... not a POG), my buddy got me into reef tanks. I grew up with FW aquariums and even tried keeping saltwater fish a couple times, although I wasn't very successful. He taught me the necessary basics of reefkeeping and we kept a 20L in the barracks with a few damsels and softies. Soon thereafter, he gave me some power compact lights and a seaclone skimmer to set up my first reef tank. I find the hobby very relaxing and hopefully you will too!
