Hi all. Thanks for the add. Started my first tank and excited to share and be part of the community.
Reefer 170
Kissel A360W
Jecod 2000 DC return
Floval power head (hope to upgrade)
Bubble magus curve 5
Reef keeper lite (hope to upgrade)

Would love to add refugium and have been trying to read up on old post but still uncertain how I will add or maybe reactor instead.

Just filled 3 days ago. Using life rock (was told has bacteria needed even though was dry) but added 5 lb live rock in between crevaces.
Salinity sitting at 1.024 and getting ready to do my first full test.

Would really like to have a back up heater (not sure how without $1000 apex)
Thinking about getting Seneye for monitoring as only have reef keeper lite with no web control to put skimmer and powerheads in standby (return pump has own controller) and to give me heat alert.

Can someone please explain why I see a lot of people with an ATO plugged in?
Why would my auto top off tank need a plug? For an electronic float? Why would you need this?
Dont want to by seneye if know will need apex in future when plan do dose?
Really need controller advice. Thanks!!

Welcome to R2R! Great place for a lot a great information. I would highly recommend watching the 52 Weeks of Reefing on YouTube, it takes you step by step through the setup and progression of a 160 gallon tank at Bulk Reef Supply (BRS). That video series, along with the great people here, provided invaluable information for me as a newbie. You can do a backup heater just by setting it a few degrees lower than your primary. You can also use a cheaper temperature controller. I know people that use this Inkbird.

Welcome... I am doing a cycle with a 170 right now as well.

A lot of us don’t use the RS ato container because it doesn’t last long and the flow valve can get stuck. We usually flip over to a separate system like a tunze 3155 which I done on my last two RSR

Excited to see your build!
