Went downstairs to look at my tank just now and much to my surprise my Jawbreaker finally has a streak of purple!

Before when the mushroom was in a much lower light tank (T5s and Reefbrite supplimental LEDS) it would expand to about 3ins in diameter. At that time it had made 3 babies already. (all babies are now on plugs and doing great).
Now in the new tank its under 400w halides and the same reefbrite LEDs. It currently is already forming one new baby(hasn't fully seperated but is coloring up) and I see a couple more buds already.

Well tonight I went down tonight and the purple stripe is from the center all the way to the edge and looks to be about a millimeter in width.

My experience was I got the baby at the size of a dime. It was 95% gold color and and a little streak of red. It started getting more red until it hit about 2 inchs in diameter. At that point green splotches started showing up. Looks like, for me, the purple started after it hit over 3 inches in diameter.

From a dime to 3 inches I'd say its been about 1 year 4 months.

Heh I knew that was going to be first question.

Anyone in the Cali bay area want to come take some pics? I just posted in the Reef eq forum for suggestions for a camera.

I can't get a good picture from my Iphone.

We need someone to go over and take a pic I wanna see this congrats on that new color means its one step closer to matureing completely

If slk55r is from the bay area, he most likely got it from aquatic gallery. His description about the color morphs is 100% correct.

I didn't buy it from the bay area though.

I'm pretty sure I got mine from Captive Reef on a for sale thread here. Just went thru all my paypal transactions and I"m 99% sure it was from captive reef. Maybe he can confirm. I'll keep looking for the thread that I posted I'd buy it.

Did not see it in my posted threads but I"ll double check.

Mutter, I cant find it. Maybe someone else can. My date on the paypal transaction was for 300 then 200 on April 26, 2010.

Sorry to go off topic but how did you mount your jawbreakers? Mine came off the plug and I am unsure how to mount it. Thanks.

I suggest using a small container about 4-6" tall with rock rubble chunks or frag disks. This way the mushroom can settle in and grab onto something that can be remounted. No guarantee it will stay on it's new home, but the less you mess with them the better they do.

Sounds like a good idea, Madreef. How long does it typically take a shroom to grab hold?

It seems the larger polyp the longer they take. I would guess anywhere from 2-4 weeks. I would just wait till there's a good deal of coraline on the container then pull out the mushroom and see how it's doing.

Sooooo....where's the pics??? How can you have a jawbreakers thread without pics!?

+1 ---- seems most will stick fast in 10 days or so however many will only blow off in a week or so after removal from cup only to end up under the rock work a month greatly increases Your chancers of sucess the first time & hassel free
