Finally Reaching Out For?

And how much vinegar are you dosing per day?
I've cut the vinegar dosing back to what I was dosing before the issue because everything was getting goopy and cloudy with no results. Runs about 10ml per day.

No other issues other than losing some corals. Almost zero algae which I think is odd with levels this high.

maybe something died in there and is just rotting away... ?

heh, i have a 68g tank and have one small hermit crab and one turbo snail and one tuxedo urchin..

when i started my tank i over did it with the CUC, I recently just removed my sand bed.. almost a month ago.. last time i tested for nitrates it was zero, earlier this week.. we are opposites right now.. i wanna see some nitrates.. ;)

and when i got all the water out and was shop vaccing up the left over sand it was so nasty and poopy, like the guys pics earlier in this thread.. and my sand was probably 2 or 3 years old.. if you dont vaccuum the sand ALOT, it just a sewer... so glad i went BB..

all i did was get a big rubbermaid tub and transferred all my rock/fish coral to it and then removed the sand... wasnt even that bad of a project..

Personally, I think you are probably doing more harm than good messing with the rock and sand. I may have missed it but have you bought a new/different brand nitrate test kit to confirm your results?

When you first started this post it appeared that you had no other issues other than high nitrate numbers. If that is the case then those other issues are surely attributable to the recent changes you have made.

I bought brand new test kits twice. All 3 of the test kits all come out the same. No difference between the three.

I had high nitrates and some of the corals were in a steady decline. Losing some of them now doesn't seem to have been an effect of moving stuff IMO because they were already angling towards that direction. I could be wrong though.

Are those new test kits the same or different brand as the one you were previously testing with? Are you using any media in the tank right now? Any pics of the tank? I'm trying to get a full picture of what the issue is. There really is an issue as based on what you are saying, I see no reason for you to have such a drastic increase in nitrate in only a weeks time.

I keep forgetting to snag a pic when I'm home. Ill get one.

I have used 2 different Salifert Test Kits, an API test kit and have gotten it tested by my LFS all with the same results. I am not running anything on my tank since starting this post other than the chaeto I mentioned earlier but that has since been removed.

I am working hard to move up my timeline on getting the new tank started. I'm convinced it has to be the sand bed since every piece of equipment is running fine and I have deep cleaned everything. I don't run a very deep sand bed so I cant imagine that it could have trapped that much. All new rock and sand will be used in the new tank with a bigger in-sump skimmer and potentially an algae scrubber. No more playing games haha.

When you Break down this tank you’ll be surprised at all the gunk that’s still in it

How long is the tank been running? I just don't see he sandbed being the issue of the tank isn't years old
