Frequent window shopper for years and finally joined the forum. My names Rick, pleasure you meet you! I transplanted to the blue ridge mountains (Salem, VA) a couple years ago from Virginia Beach. I run a couple hvac business and decided to spend a good chunk of my summertime bounty this year building a tank. It’s absolutely wonderful up here, but it didn’t take long for me to find out that the availability of reefing equipment and livestock in a mountain community is much more scarce than my coastal and transient military hometown. So I’m quickly trying to figure out the intricacies of shipping in everything. This is my 120g, it’s been up and running since late June and is minimally stocked right now, but looking forward to making some online connections and changing that!
In my occupation I build and service a lot of systems that involve the same construction and plumbing. I do hvacr, but specialize in refrigeration. I have always gotten a lot of satisfaction out of utilizing my skill sets in this hobby, especially the building and plumbing of the equipment. Love screwing with the Apex, still haven’t had time to build a lot of the ideas I initially had into this system. I’ve been slow and steady since getting it in the cycling process. Somehow in my past tanks I’ve avoided flatworms...at least I never noticed them. This tank had an outbreak with barely adding anything. Anyways the only coral I had so far was gsp, so I went ahead and hit it with the flatworm exit today. Everyone except the flatworms stemmed to fair pretty well and I double dosed. I didn’t syphon like the instructions, but instead I pulled my 3 mp40s at 100% every so often for a couple hours and changed filter sock every 30 minutes. Then 2.5 lbs of new carbon in the reactor and all is well so far.
