Getting ready to purchase sand and confused on which one to get. from what I've read fine sand is perfect for gobies but yet you suck a lot of it up when you vacuum. With a medium sized sand you don't lose very much sand yet not recommended for gobies and sand sifting species.

So which size do I get?

I do t really like the fine sand personally. I like the crushed aragonite. My sand sifter has no problems.

Depends on your flow. If you have a high flow tank, a coarser grade works better. When I cranked up my flow, I had some bare spots and I did not go with the really fine stuff. I added some carefully washed coarser sand on the problem spots and it was good.

I used fine when I first set up my 240. Biggest mistake I made. Being an SPS tank, I have a ton of flow, and piles of sand in the corner and bald spots in the middle..
Medium grade will work just fine for gobies.

Depends on what you classify as medium grain. I use carribsea special grade and have no issues with sand sifters or cleaning of the sand. Also does not blow around with my MP40's!
