I have a 270 gallon reef tank with a small mix of corals. I’ve had a persistent algae issue that snails and urchins just don’t keep up with. I’d like to beef up my fish population with herbivores and don’t know the best way to proceed to avoid aggression issues. I’m not against large fish, but my long term goal is piles of 1-2” fish, a bunch of 2-4” fish, and a few 4-8” fish. I also don’t want another rabbitfish as mine just didn’t seem to have enough swimming room and refused to touch any algae.

As far as snails go, what are best for GHA that’s growing within nooks and crannies? I had mounds of turbos, but they were killed off by dinos and I’d like to restock with a well rounded population. Note that my tank is barebottom.

Thanks for any guidance :)

Thought of a sea hare for GHA? Mine is amazing!

I’ve had a couple before. This tank has dinos that killed the last one very quickly, which clued me in that I didn’t have just hair algae. They’re gone not, so maybe.

Ooooh dang!! My PBT and purple tang are the best algae pickers in my tank currently, also love lawnmower blennies if you dont want to add a tang, especially since those two can be on the meaner side for tangs!

I’ve been considering a lawn mower, but I already have a Molly Miller blenny and I’m not sure it would go well.
