anyone with experience with these heaters? I've heard good and bad reviews when it comes to them. Mostly overheating issues. I was thinking of buying just the titanium heater. No controller or anything. Plan on the apex being my controller. If it was to stop working I would have the apex programmed to where it would shut it off. I guess this could happen with any heater and be controlled the same way but I was told the finnex were excellent

I have a finnex heater and been in use for close to two years and done nothing but perform for me.

On a side note with reviews regardless of product. it seems regardless of actual positive vs negative performance in real world a larger percentage of negative experience consumers tend to speak up more so take them with a grain of salt

Ok. Maybe it was just the older models or just the one with the controllers
I have the eheims and they have been somewhat ok by me so far. My buddy just suggested these finnex to me cause we just hooked up my apex and he says there real good. Just wondering if it makes sense to change like are they a upgrade over what I have now

And yes. People tend to post more negative then positive. I don't know why guess it's the law of the land. But if you look up the reviews there was quite a few/bunch of people complaining of them blowing up or overheating

I've used them for a few years now and I've had good luck with them.

I have one with the controller and I really like it. only thing I could say is longer cables would be a nice upgrade

I used one for my water change container that after 3 years of taking in an out it blew and end cap while submerged. One of the ones with the controller.

I have 2 hooked up to my apex 800w, 500w. Never had a problem. Couple months ago I bought onother 500w w a contoller for my QT tank.

@Renato-you have them both on 1 eb8? How long have you had yours?
My biggest issue is my sump is in the basement and it gets cold here in New York

I've had 2 finnex 150w heaters running for 9 months straight now. Seem to work well. Cannot say for sure if the temp controller is correct. I have 4 thermometers giving me different readings, from what I have my controller set at. So my tank is a shot in the dark between 76.8 F and 81 F. *shrugs*... The controllers are set at 77F and 79 F

That's crazy. Not knowing exactly what your temp is but you have the thermometers that's supposed to tell you

You're tellin me!

"get the glass thermometer" they say. "No get a digital thermometer" "No get the cheap glass one!" Back and forth back and forth. Well, I have four of the stupid things and they all have a different number lol

Just a word of advice... do not rely on a single controller for the heater i.e. Apex ever. Apex power bars when an outlet fails seem to go out in the on position which would be bad. I run my heater controller backed up by Apex control. I've gone through several of the coralvue 800w titaniums and controllers. The only survivor is one of the controllers and I put a Finnex on it. Hasn't really been used yet ( I used my backup Jager at end of last winter.) so hopefully its not another dud. The quality/longevity on all them, regardless of brand is poor. When my Apex died last week things might have been bad had the heater been in use w/o a separate heater controller. In anything bigger than a glass 300w Jager you just can't find much of anything that is not Chinese junk. Trust me I looked and looked and had to settle on a Finnex. The positive thing about them is BRS sells them and they probably would not if total junk.
